Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi 2020 – Report of 13th Annual Inter-Collegiate Competitions

Disha Charitable Trust for Value Initiatives, in association with Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College, Malleshwaram conducted 13th Inter-collegiate Competitions on 6th February 2020 from 9:30AM to 4:30PM, on the account of culmination of Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi-2020 celebrations.

To give a brief background, Disha has been organizing a month-long awareness campaign and program series every January, spanning through February, from the past 7 years. Naturally, the most fitting way to conclude the program series is to bring the youth of our country under one roof and provide them with activities that get their minds thinking about Mother India and her Noble son, Swami Vivekananda.

This year’s Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi celebrations revolved around the theme “Swami Vivekananda – An Eternal Inspiration”. Despite being late by a few days to start the campaign and promotions, within 24 days, Disha has been able to successfully conduct one-hour interactive sessions for over 28,000 students through 157 programs!

It was a divine coincidence that the year 2020 marked Swamiji’s 157th Jayanthi and that the annual intercollegiate competitions and culmination happened to be the 157th program of the series.

This year’s culmination event started and ended on an auspicious note. Sri Nityananda Vivekavamshi, renowned columnist and motivational speaker graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The fact that even after his awakening Keynote address, he stayed with us through the day, offering encouragement, inspiration to every student and the rest present there, goes on to say volumes about his magnanimity.

For the four competitions that we had organized, we received an overwhelming participation of 325 students. Here are a few stats from the events:
1. Speech Competition – Individual event – 55 Participants
2. Viveka Bharatha Quiz – 2-member Group event – 78 Groups – 156 Participants
3. Trivikrama – Triathlon – 3-members Group event – 28 Groups – 84 Participants
4. Short Movie Making Competition – 4 Members Group event – 5 Groups – 20 Participants.

These events were designed around the themes “Swami Vivekananda” and “India” We had the privilege of having esteemed dignitaries as judges. The mega event turned out to be a grand success, and the credit goes to the outstanding coordination between mLAC faculty, its students, our ever-active Disha Volunteers, and all the participants.

We concluded yet another year of Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi celebrations with overwhelming satisfaction and bliss. Here are a few pics from the event!
